Learn to Sew

we have a variety of learn to sew courses coming up. If you would like to learn the basics of how to use your sewing machine, we suggest signing up for Course 1 - learn to sew a Cushion. This is a great introduction to how to use your machine and basic stitches and seams.

this is the first time we have offered sewing courses so if there is a time/day that would work better for you or a particular skill you would like to learn that isn't listed please get in touch using the contact form and let us know.

Our tutor is professional sewing teacher Tracey Mee.

Course 1: Learn to Sew make a CUSHION
Do you have a sewing machine that you don't feel 100% confident using? This course is designed to help you learn the basics of how your machine works and how to sew.

In this 2 hour evening course, you will make a cushion with an envelope back, and is a great way to learn seams and how to work with fabric. Taught by our professional tutor Tracey Mee who runs a sewing studio and is a trained tailor.

You can use fabric from our fabric re-use hub (included in the price) or bring your own.

Ideally you will bring your own sewing machine so you can get to know it, but if you don't have a sewing machine we do have a few spares in the shed that you can learn on and come back in as a member and use!

This is a one session course, we are running it on two different Wed evenings:

option 1: Tues 21 Jan 7-9pm

Course 2: Learn to follow a pattern TROUSERS
Do you want to learn how to make your own clothes?

In this day long course you will learn how to follow a pattern to make a simple pair of elasticated waist trousers or shorts. Taught by our professional tutor Tracey Mee who runs a sewing studio and is a trained tailor.

You will choose and supply your own fabric.

Ideally you will bring your own sewing machine so you can get to know it, but if you don't have a sewing machine we do have a few spares in the shed that you can learn on and come back in as a member and use!

Course 3: Sewing Surgery
Do you have have some ongoing sewing projects but need to have a tutor on hand to ask questions and get advice for the tricky bits? Then Sewing Surgery is for you.

This is a 2 hour session with a tutor on hand to help you through your questions on your project. Taught by our professional tutor Tracey Mee who runs a sewing studio and is a trained tailor.

Course 4: Leather - make a small card/coin purse
Are you curious to try leathermaking?

In this short 1.5 hour evening course you will learn how to make a small leather purse suitable for coins or bank cards.

We have leather offcuts available in our fabric re-use hub and leather tools and rivets that you can use.

option 1: Mon 20 January 7pm-8:30pm

cost: £20 incl. materials per 1.5 hour session

About our Tutors

Tracey Mee

Tracey Mee is a very experienced seamstress who has been working in the business for over 18 years, she started as a costume assistant working for Grenada and the BBC going on to run her own bespoke label and then she began teaching sewing 6 years ago and fell in love. She one of the most precise sewers you'll ever meet and always has a handy hint or trick up her sleeve. She loves keeping the studio neat, tidy and organised, everything has a place!
